The 2023 Riesling Smaragd Ried Achleiten comes from the legendary Ried Achleiten vineyard directly on the Danube in Weißenkirchen. The barren, silicate-rich soils of Gföhler gneiss, paragneiss, and amphibolite shape the wine's mineral-driven and distinctive character. The grapes are strictly selected in several passes, hand-harvested, and gently pressed after a short period of maceration. Following a partially spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures first in steel and then for several months in large wooden barrels on the fine lees. On the palate, it is juicy and structured, with fine stone fruit aromas, racy acidity, deep minerality, and a characteristically salty finish.
